njArchitects extensions draw inspiration from the built fabric of the existing building, and are informed by the immediate site context. This considered approach creates beautiful and contextual buildings that provide value for money in both construction and use.
5 The Green, Diseworth, Derbyshire
The project creates a series of spacious, open-plan living spaces from the original series of small rooms rationalised via the addition of a single storey extension, extruded from the side of the original house.
The principle rooms are enlarged to create generously proportioned living spaces with a double height volume bringing natural daylight into the property and providing a visual and physical link to the gardens. The extension explores how additional volume can be added to optimise value without compromising the existing property and neighbours. The site is also within a conservation area.
Menston, Ilkley
A bold re-imagining of a semi-detached house in Menston for a growing family looking to introduce light, space and exciting connections to the garden into their home.
The aim of the project is to make better space for family life in a turn of the century semi-detached house located in the green belt. The kitchen is the centre of any family home, and its existing one was small, cramped and not visually or physically connected to the south facing garden. The scheme creates light filled, open space at the rear of the house and opens it onto a terraced garden. Space and light are modernist touchstones and are used to create a warm, comfortable environment in which to live, cook and dine in this multifunctional space.
The project illustrates how the addition to this home and fresh thinking and open plan design create a much greater sense of family space.
