Folllowing the success of Grange Park surgery, the Practice was asked to consider the extension to Dyneley House Surgery in Skipton.
The new extension located to the rear of the existing surgery, will provide clinical, support and community functions. It will allow the existing surgery’s capacity to meet the current and growing patient demand, improve functionality, and ensure accessibility for all users. The project will also reconfigure the internal layout of the existing surgery, relocate of the main entrance, revise parking and access arrangements and deliver new landscaping
The design of the proposed extension has been carefully considered to ensure that it relates well to the existing building, and in respect of how it will be seen in the context of the local area, limiting its scale where possible, whilst representing a quality contemporary addition. The proposed extension, rising to three storeys in the middle is of
a scale sympathetic to the hierarchy of the surrounding buildings.
The height and bulk of the building are in harmony with neighbouring structures to maintain a balanced streetscape. The form draws its expression from the way the plan relates to its site.
The existing stone walling of the surgery and surrounding buildings, is adopted on the new extension, but blended with other materials to create a rich but controlled expression. The primary facade material is high quality locally sourced stone, selected for its resonance with the finer buildings within the town. Stone was not only chosen for its contextual sensitivity but also for its durability, low maintenance and graceful ageing.
The remaining limited materials of glass, zinc and timber, represent a warm contemporary palette, creating a clear connection between the existing and neighbouring buildings.
